Multiwavelength mid-IR spatially-dispersive CW laser based on polycrystalline Cr2+:ZnSe.

For the first time we demonstrate a multiwavelength, ultrabroadband, continuous-wave, tunable, polycrystalline Cr2+:ZnSe spatially-dispersive laser, operating in the near IR spectral region. We show a dual-wavelength operation of the laser, tunable over a 600 nm spectral range (2200-2800 nm), an ultrabroadband operation of the laser, producing a continuous 135 nm wide spectrum centered at 2500 ...

Mid-IR multiwavelength difference frequency generation based on fiber lasers.

A mid-IR multiwavelength difference frequency generation (DFG) laser source with fiber laser fundamental lights is demonstrated by using the dispersion property of PPLN to broaden the quasi-phase-matching (QPM) acceptance bandwidth (BW). Our results show that the QPM BW for the pump YDFL is much larger than that for the signal EDFL. Using a multiwavelength YDFL and a single-wavelength EDFL as t...

Three optical cycle mid-IR Kerr-lens mode-locked polycrystalline Cr(2+):ZnS laser.

We report Kerr-lens mode-locked polycrystalline Cr(2+):ZnS lasers at 2.4 μm central wavelength optimized for short pulse duration. By control of the second- and third-order dispersion within 500 nm bandwidth we obtained pulses of three optical cycles (<29  fs) at 100 MHz repetition rate with 0.44 W average power. The emission spectrum is 240 nm broad at -3  dB level and spans 950 nm at -30  dB ...

Characterization of highly stable mid-IR, GaSb-based laser diodes.

Highly stable room-temperature, mid-IR, GaSb-based laser diodes have been characterized at various temperatures and driver currents. Up to 54 mW of output power was demonstrated in a 3150- to 3180-nm-wavelength range with <20-nm FWHM spectral width.

Wavelength-dependent collagen fragmentation during mid-IR laser ablation.

Mid-infrared free-electron lasers have proven adept in surgical applications. When tuned to wavelengths between 6 and 7 microm, such lasers remove defined volumes of soft tissue with very little collateral damage. Previous attempts to explain the wavelength-dependence of collateral damage have invoked a wavelength-dependent loss of protein structural integrity. However, the molecular nature of ...
